First of all
Denmark which is bordered next to Germany, is a small country in the north. Denmark is a country with a long and interesting history, it is a kingdom which has been involved in many historical movements through the years. Besides that, a lot of kingdoms near to Denmark has strategic tried to invade the country. The other neighbour is Sweden, which in ways reminds of Denmark, for example with things like the architecture and social behaviours. Both countries are very proud of its traditions and value highly to keep in touch with the old traditions.
Family conjuncture is one of the valuable things that Danes and swedes appreciate. But they like to keep it for the special events that happens throughout the year. This could be family weekends or holidays where they have time to spend some time together. Because Danes works a lot, and actually, it is a big part of the daily life in Denmark, to keep a busy life going.
Danish lifestyle and architecture
When I visited Denmark, I saw many interesting things and many old cities around the country, with a touch of romance. A thing I noticed the most was the beautiful houses in the small towns around the islands. It’s really easy to notice and everyone who has ever been to Denmark would know what I mean. I travelled from Germany, and drove on my motorbike to a small coastline town in the northeast of the small island called Fyn. When I came to Kerteminde I felt so uplifted, because I could really sense the feeling of being surrounded by the water. The beach went with a long coastline beach area from one site to another. It was a summer vacation or rather a holiday for me, so I went swimming in the beautiful ocean everyday.
My first time in a bed and breakfast
I slept over in Samlingsstuens bed and breakfast, which was located in the city centre of the small town. It had its housing inside a protected building, in a yard called “Andreasens købmandsgaard”. Here they had nice rooms with beautiful flowers on the side table beside my bed, and a nice clean room, which I valued very much.
My time schedule told me to stay in Kerteminde for only a few days, but I actually ended up staying there for 5 days. I am a bit of a nature guy myself, so I used most of the time wondering around the beaches and big forests which were located around the area.
The Vikings of Denmark
I also went to the Viking museum, which were around 10 km from Samlingsstuen. It had a meet up of modern Vikings, going on. I learned many things about Danish history and culture that day and I even tasted real Viking food.
Basically this place was a really well proven place to go to with a family, there were a lot of things for the kids to do and learn. But even going there by my self, was really joy able.
In the end
I want to share a word that I came across many times on my stay in Denmark. Its called “hygge” and is a unique description of for example a family conjunction or maybe another way to say “chill out”. The word is specially linked to Denmark, and describes very well how Danish people are.
